In 2022, the EAPO received the maximum number of applications for inventions for the last 10 years. The number of Eurasian applications filed in 2022 totaled 3,731 applications.

In 2022, the number of patents granted increased: there were 2,766 Eurasian patents granted, 350 more patents than were granted in the previous year.

Representatives of 64 countries became Eurasian patent owners, including residents of 7 States party to the EAPC.

The grand total for 1996 through 2022 reached 42,064 Eurasian patents granted.

In 2022, 654 Eurasian patents were granted to applicants from States party to the EAPC, which is 23.64 per cent of the total number of Eurasian patents granted in the reporting year.

There were 2,112 Eurasian patents granted to applicants from States not party to the EAPC, which is 76.36 per cent of the Eurasian patents granted in the reporting year.

In 2022, there were 148 Eurasian industrial design patents granted, which protect 419 industrial designs.

The interest in the regional system for the registration of industrial designs is confirmed by the increase in the number of Eurasian patents granted: 141 more patents were granted compared to the previous year.

Representatives of 11 countries became the holders of Eurasian industrial design patents, including residents of 3 States party to the Protocol.

The grand total for 2021 through 2022 reached 155 Eurasian industrial design patents granted. These patents protect a total of 435 industrial designs.

In 2022, 105 Eurasian industrial design patents were granted to applicants from the States party to the Protocol.

Applicants from States not party to the Protocol were granted 43 Eurasian patents.

On May 1, 2022, the Eurasian Patent Office began the simultaneous issue of Eurasian patents for inventions and industrial designs in both electronic and paper forms.

On January 1, 2023, the Eurasian Patent Office switched to granting Eurasian patents in electronic form only.

On July 1, 2022, the Eurasian Patent Office began operating as an International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) and became the 24th International Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). In the reporting year, the patent offices of seven EAPO member states recognized the Eurasian Patent Office as a competent ISA and IPEA.

Since the announcement of its operation in the new status, the Eurasian Patent Office has already been indicated as the International Searching Authority in 14 international applications (including 9 applications from the Russian Federation, 3 applications from the Republic of Belarus, and 2 application from the Republic of Kazakhstan). One international application was submitted to the Eurasian Patent Office for international preliminary examination.

On September 21, 2022, the Eurasian Patent Office, together with the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property, held the first International Eurasian Conference IP EURASIA 22 Innovations in Pharmaceuticals and Intellectual Property Protection in the Eurasian Space, which was an important element of cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian region.

On November 1, 2022, the Eurasian Patent Office began accepting digital three-dimensional models (3D models) for Eurasian invention and industrial design applications. Following Rospatent, the Eurasian Patent Office is the second office in the Eurasian region which offers applicants the opportunity to use modern digital three-dimensional modeling technologies for the purposes of the patent procedure.

The President of the Eurasian Patent Office approved the Eurasian Patent Office’s Research and Development Plan for 2022–2025, which includes 12 research and development activities in the field of intellectual property.

Cooperation with the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property (RSAIP) gained a fresh impetus in the reporting year. On April 11, 2022, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the EAPO and RSAIP, and in May 2022, a strategic plan for interaction between the Eurasian Patent Office and RSAIP was agreed upon to promote educational, scientific, outreach, and examiner activities in the field of intellectual property in the Eurasian space in 2022–2026.
