The year 2017 saw not only the targets met by the Eurasian Patent Organization as set for us in 2016, but also new accomplishments that we achieved.
I am proud to report the conclusion of two international patent prosecution highway agreements that capped the work towards this goal. In 2017, the Eurasian Patent Organization’s Administrative Council held its thirty-third (twenty-fourth ordinary) meeting. The EAPO AC Budget Working Group had its twenty-second meeting in the reporting year. >>
The Eurasian Patent Organization continued streamlining the Eurasian Patent Organization's regulatory framework in 2017. The team made amendments and addenda to the Patent Regulations under the EAPC, Administrative Regulations under the EAPC and the Eurasian Patent Office Staff Employment Regulations. >>
The distribution pattern for Eurasian applications by industry did not change significantly in the year under review. Similar to the previous reporting periods, the most applications were filed for inventions in organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals and medicines. >>
International applications accounted for the bulk of Eurasian applications in 2017 totalling 2,523 applications, or 76.4% of all the applications filed.

As its core information technologies (IT) priorities in 2017, the Eurasian Paten Office worked to build EAPO resilience and efficiency having to adapt to the evolving legal framework amid the growing data traffic in a situation where the Office had to enhance the timeliness of Eurasian patent document publications and to reach out to wider audiences raising third-party awareness about the Eurasian Patent Organization performance. >>

For managing its finance in the reported period, the Eurasian Patent Organization relied on the Eurasian Patent Convention, the Financial Regulations under the Eurasian Patent Convention and the effective law of the country of origin of EAPO's headquarters. >>
The Eurasian Patent Organization continued promoting its collaborative work with the Eurasian patent attorneys and sees it as an important corporate commitment. Twenty-seven new professionals from Moscow, St Petersburg, Perm and Kazan passed their certification tests and were certified and registered as Eurasian patent attorneys to complement the industry in 2017. >>
