Eurasian Patent Attorneys
The Eurasian Patent Organization continued to advance its active collaborative work with the Eurasian patent attorneys and refine the ways of such professional cooperation, it as an important corporate commitment.
Thirty-nine patent attorneys from the Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Omsk, Kazan, Tomsk, Tambov and Obninsk), the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty and Astana) and the Republic of Belarus (Minsk) passed their qualification tests and were certified and registered as Eurasian patent attorneys in the reporting period.
In 2018, the Eurasian Office introduced a new service for candidates for Eurasian patent attorneys. The candidates residing outside Moscow and Moscow region can now take the certification test for Eurasian patent attorney distantly. In the year under review, five patent attorneys in the Republic of Kazakhstan and three patent attorneys in the Russian Federation (St. Petersburg, Omsk and Yekaterinburg) passed certification test using the new format.
The Eurasian patent attorneys represent all the States party to the Eurasian Patent Convention.

In 2018, patent attorneys and patent service specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod benefited from two special training workshops on practical aspects of using EAPO information systems and resources. The workshops were organized by the Eurasian Office with a view to enhancing the efficiency and quality of EAPO information resources. Moderating the hands-on training, the EAPO specialists helped the trainees better understand the structure, functions and services, data search and retrieval capabilities and ways of accessing the
EAPO-ONLINE electronic filing and electronic exchange system and the Eurasian Patent Information System (EAPATIS).
In addition to its focus on new ways of electronic communication and advancement of paperless workflow management, the Eurasian Patent Organization traditionally views personal communication with patent attorneys as a priority. On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day the executives and specialists of the Eurasian Office hosted a traditional meeting with Eurasian patent attorneys, candidates for Eurasian patent attorneys, representatives of the editorial boards of Russian intellectual property periodicals and other stakeholders from the Eurasian Patent Convention Contracting States and various regions of the Russian Federation. The format of the meeting included presentations by EAPO specialists on corporate operations relevant to the Eurasian patent attorneys' profession, followed by a active exchange of views concerning the interaction between patent attorneys and EAPO, as well as on the prospects for closer professional cooperation. Considering the invariably high interest in such meetings from Eurasian patent attorneys, in December 2018 the Eurasian Office also hosted a year-end conference with them to sum up the achievements and discuss the plans for the coming year.
