EURASIAN PATENT ATTORNEYS

Sixteen patent attorneys from the Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg) and the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty) were certified and registered as Eurasian patent attorneys based on the results of certification test in 2019.

The new service introduced by the Eurasian Patent Office in 2018, which provides the opportunity to take the certification test for Eurasian patent attorneys remotely, received positive feedback and was successfully in demand in 2019. Six patent attorneys took the certification test in the new format. Two of them were attorneys of the Republic of Kazakhstan and four were patent attorneys from St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.

Registration of the 500th patent attorney in the Register of Eurasian Patent Attorneys became an important event at EAPO. On this occasion the No.500 certificate was personally granted by EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova.

The pool of 484 acting Eurasian patent attorneys comprises specialists of all the EAPC Contracting States. The respective breakdown is as follows.

EAPO established a special nomination within the framework of the Eurasian Inventor Award in order to celebrate the Eurasian patent attorneys who are most active as professional representatives of applicants before EAPO, thus expressing the gratitude for the contribution of patent attorneys in the promotion of the Eurasian patent system.

Gorodissky & Partners Law Firm received the Eurasian Inventor Award in the nomination “Patent Attorneys’ Law Firm”. Presentation of the commemorative award took place on September 9, 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Republic of Kazakhstan. The Eurasian Award was presented by EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova.

Introducing new forms of electronic interaction, EAPO still values personal communication with the Eurasian patent attorneys.

EAPO hosted a traditional end-of-the-year meeting with the Eurasian patent attorneys on December 20, 2019 at the EAPO headquarters.

In her opening speech EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova thanked the Eurasian patent attorneys for cooperation and summarized the most significant events and achievements of the passing year.

Presentations by EAPO representatives provided the audience with information on the aspects of the new course of EAPO activities, which will be implemented on the basis of the Protocol on Protection of Industrial Designs. The audience was also informed about the changes in the technology of publication of the Eurasian patent documentation related to the transition to instant publication technology, as well as current results and plans of the Office to advance the filing of Eurasian applications in character-coded form through the EAPO-ONLINE system.

The participants of the meeting also considered EAPO approaches to assessing the patentability of pharmaceutical inventions as one of the key topics in the context of national and regional discussions on securing patent rights for pharmaceuticals at various international conferences and discussion platforms in 2019.
