The 8th International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI-2022) finished in Bali, Indonesia. More than a thousand talented young inventors from 32 countries, including two member states of the Eurasian Patent Organization – the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan – took part in the event.

Young contestants – school students under 18 years old – presented to the international jury their innovative ideas or projects in the form of designs, mock-ups, prototypes, or ready-made products and exchange ideas and knowledge within the creative community. Among the key features judged by the jury were originality, usefulness and environmental friendliness, performance and practicality of the products presented, and the participants’ ability to present their invention.

All members of the Russian inventor team were awarded gold and silver medals, as well as special awards.

Gold medals received:

• Anastasia Eliseeva for a personal auscultation monitoring device (Moscow);

• Alexander Sukhotsky for “Helper” – the container for automatic dispensing of medicines (Moscow);

• Konstantin Bazuev for robotic air monitoring system (Moscow).

Silver medals received:

• Alexander Smurov for the project of an electric vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel energy (Bor, Nizhny Novgorod region);

• Anna Kozlova for technical solutions for the end upgrade of the axle box of the railway car (Primorsky Region);

• Anzhelika Isachenko for the hybrid coupler (Primorsky Region);

• Egor Kopytov for a drinking fountain for cats (Perm).

The Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) awarded 2 teams with the “Advancing the Future” medal: an Indonesian team that presented an original solution for the use of organic extracts for protecting wood from termites, as well as students of the Technical Development Center – “Quantorium” Children’s Technopark of the Svobodnenskaya Children’s Railway named after G.M. Fadeev (Russian Federation). Children from Russia excelled not only in terms of invention: as part of the cultural aspect of the exhibition young artists from the group Danco received a standing ovation with their dance program of various genres.

Participation of the Russian team of young inventors was traditionally organized by “Gorodissky & Partners” law firm. Yury Kuznetsov, head of the firm’s patent practice:“Russia needs to arrange a comprehensive system for revealing talented young inventors. Our task is to give them knowledge about intellectual property, skills of using patent information and drafting patent applications”.

EAPO President Grigory Ivliev: “The Eurasian Patent Office traditionally supports a variety of projects aimed at children and youth. We will not dwell on the current initiatives – Eurasian Universiade, International IP Olympiad and Summer Schools. We are ready to work with young inventors and their mentors to ensure that obtaining legal protection of intellectual property becomes a necessary element of their creative self-realization.”

On the sidelines of the exhibition, the EAPO delegation held a meeting with colleagues from the General Directorate of Intellectual Property of Indonesia.
