On November 30, 2010 the WIPO delegation visited the Eurasian Patent Office. The WIPO delegation was represented by Mr. Yo Takagi, Assistant Director General, and Mr. Alexander Matveev, Head, Section for Caucasian, Central Asian and Eastern European Countries, Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia.

The purpose of the visit was to sign with EAPO President Alexander Grigoriev a Memorandum of Understanding between the Eurasian Patent Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization in the Area of Patent Information and Dissemination of Patent Documents, signed by the Director General of WIPO Dr. Francis Gurry on November 19, 2010; as well as to learn about EAPO activities in the field of information technologies.

During the visit Mr. Takagi was informed about activity of the Office, EAPO specialists demonstrated latest developments in the field of information technologies and made presentations on EAPATIS search possibilities, EAPO Portal of information services, project of electronic filing of Eurasian applications.

In the course of the meeting with EAPO President Alexander Grigoriev, Mr. Takagi gave high appraisal of the EAPO activities in the field of information technologies, expressed WIPO willingness to develop cooperation with EAPO and confirmed WIPO readiness to support EAPO activities.

Mr. Takagi declared that WIPO, which took direct participation in creation of the Eurasian Patent Organization, and has a status of an observer in the EAPO Administrative Council, according to the Eurasian Patent Convention, will encourage and contribute to strengthening and development of the Organization in the future.
