On April 22, 2019, the delegation of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, headed by Chairman of the Board Kamran Imanov visited the headquarters of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO).

EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova and the EAPO Management welcomed the guests.

During the meeting President Tlevlessova and Chairman Imanov exchanged greetings, opinions on the trends for the IP development, proposals on the areas of cooperation between the two offices, as well as information of the current state in the field of protection of inventions under the Eurasian patent system.

EAPO President spoke about the EAPO focus on the intensive implementation of modern information technologies.

Saule Tlevlessova paid particular attention to the use of the Eurasian patent system by the applicants from the Republic of Azerbaijan. She cited relevant statistics, noting a significant predominance of applications on pharmaceuticals and mining among all Eurasian applications received from the Republic of Azerbaijan.

President Tlevlessova stressed the high level of activity of universities and other educational organizations in filing Eurasian applications. It indicates the special attention of the State to intellectual property issues at the educational stage.
EAPO President also informed the delegation of Azerbaijan on the upcoming events devoted to the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Eurasian Patent Convention, to be held in October 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Republic of Kazakhstan.

Mr. Imanov informed about the organizational and functional changes in the intellectual property system of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the creation of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a single state structure on copyright, related rights and industrial property rights.

Speaking about the current activities of the Agency, K. Imanov emphasized the improvement of national IP legislation, the creation of an electronic system for interaction between applicants and the Agency at all workflow stages, as well as efforts towards raising awareness on the IP institute and creation of appropriate infrastructure supporting innovative activity in Azerbaijan.

At the end of the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation expressed readiness to support the activities of the Eurasian Office and further development of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
