The Eurasian Patent Office hosted a meeting of the Community Council of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.
The participants discussed development of the Eurasian regional system for legal protection of intellectual property, namely the creation of a registration system of a unitary Eurasian trademark and a unitary Eurasian utility model. EAPO President Grigory Ivliev noted that a comprehensive communications system, including not only trade and economic but also scientific and technical, educational, and cultural relations, has evolved in the Eurasian space. This directly influences the intellectual property.
“This is reflected in the statistics. In 2023, the number of Eurasian applications increased by more than 20%. The Eurasian patent system is demanded by business sector. A patent covering the Eurasian region implies the possible introducing of competitive technology to the markets of neighboring countries. This is especially relevant with the growing mutual trade flows in the Eurasian space, which are caused by both historically close ties between our countries and new external factors. Therefore, the IP system must meet economic requirements, and, as a consequence, the Eurasian patent system should be enhanced. We need to meet the demands of business and create a registration system of a unitary Eurasian trademark and a unitary Eurasian utility model,” said Grigory Ivliev.
The participants of the meeting, namely Svetlana Khorkina, Vitaly Kalyatin, Natalia Mazur, Alexander Kalinin, and Oleg Dyachenko, supported the creation of a registration system of a unitary Eurasian trademark and a unitary Eurasian utility model.
