On October 28, 2011 the Delegation of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) visited the Eurasian Patent Office.

The JPO Delegation was represented by Mr. Shimpei YAMAMOTO, Director of the Regional Policy Office, International Affairs Division, and Mr. Takuya NAKAGAWA, Second Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Russia.

From the EAPO side the delegation consisted of Mr. Victor TALYANSKIY, Director, Examination Department (Head of the EAPO Delegation); Mr. Dmitry ROGOZHIN, Director Deputy, Examination Department; Mr. Vladimir SIROTYUK, Director, Patent Information Department; Mr. Andrey SEKRETOV, Principal Specialist, Division of Patent Documentation Processing; Mrs. Marina KRYUKOVA, Director, International Relations Department; Mr. Andrey KONDRAT, Deputy Director, Automation Procedure Department; Ms. Ekaterina CHEKUN, Principal Specialist, International Relations Department.

The purpose of the visit, organized under the JPO’s initiative, was to inform the visitors of the EAPO activity, the Eurasian Patent System as well as to establish more close contacts and to discuss perspectives of future cooperation.

The Japanese Delegation proposed to consider a possibility to conclude a bilateral agreement on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) and to connect EAPO to the Advanced Industrial Property Network (AIPN).

The proposals were received positively. The EAPO Delegation expressed interest in developing cooperation in those directions.

During the negotiations the Parties agreed on the visit of the JPO examiners to EAPO in February 2012 and on the possible visit of EAPO specialists to the JPO to study implementation of paperless technologies.
