Seminar on Legal Protection of Industrial Property Rights, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and Search Possibilities in EAPATIS Databases took place at the Training Center of the National Institute of Intellectual Property from April 21 to 23, 2009 in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan. The Seminar was organized by the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) in cooperation with the Committee on Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The training included 12 academic hours of lectures and 6 hours of workshops. EAPO specialists were the main lecturers of the Seminar. Participants of the seminar were mainly specialists in the field of intellectual property: representatives of large enterprises and organizations, educational institutions, scientific and research institutes of Kazakhstan, patent attorneys, examiners of the National Institute of Intellectual Property and its regional representatives.

The Seminar was opened by M.A.Sadanov, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Intellectual Property.

I.I.Nikitina, Director of the branch of the Institute in Almaty, informed on legal protection of industrial property in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

D.Y.Rogozhin, Director, Formal Examination Department, EAPO, reported on current state and perspectives of development of the Eurasian patent system, peculiarities of EAPO formal examination procedures, and main principles of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). During the workshop the audience received comprehensive answers to the questions posed.

V.O.Sirotyuk, Director, Dataware Department, EAPO, presented on functional, search and service possibilities of the Eurasian Patent Information System (EAPATIS), EAPO’s activity in creation of a common Eurasian patent information space, content and characteristics of EAPATIS databases. During the workshop Mr. Sirotyuk demonstrated how to carry out searches in EAPATIS and other information and search systems. The participants were also provided with manuals on search in EAPATIS.
