The EAPO delegation, led by EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova, participated in the work of LESI 2019 Annual Conference organized by the International Licensing Executives Society (LESI) on May 26-28, 2019 in Yokohama, Japan.

EAPO President made a presentation on the regional aspects of the Eurasian Patent Organization at the special session dedicated to the Eurasian patent system.

LESI brings together professionals in the field of licensing and technology transfer from 60 countries and annually gathers them to discuss the latest news and trends in the field of legal IP protection and commercialization.

LESI 2019 Conference was held under the motto “Create IP Culture – Open for Business”, which emphasizes the importance of creating an IP management culture in society to increase the competitiveness of companies, reduce business risks and protect investments.

On the margins of Conference President Tlevlessova held a series of meetings with representatives of business, industry, patent attorneys of Japan and other countries. Representatives of the IP law firm GORODISSKY AND PARTNERS from Russia and Japan also participated in the meetings.

On May 29, 2019, the EAPO delegation visited the Tokyo offices of SOEI Patent & Law Firm and SEIWA PATENT & LAW, which are among the most well-known Japanese patent attorney firms providing services in the field of patent law.

At the meeting with the senior management of SOEI Patent & Law Firm and SEIWA PATENT & LAW the EAPO delegation introduced the features of the unitary nature of the Eurasian patent to the specialists of the firms and gave explanations on the Eurasian patent procedure.

The parties expressed their willingness to cooperate and noted the importance of raising awareness of Japanese business and industry community of advantages of the Eurasian patent system in protection of investments into innovative products and technologies implemented in the EAPO member countries.

On the same day, the EAPO delegation visited the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the opportunities of holding joint events aimed at promoting the Eurasian patent system in Japan.
