On October 28, 2021, the delegation of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), headed by EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova visited the State Space Corporation Roscosmos (Russian Federation).

The occasion for the visit was the granting of the first Eurasian industrial design patent, owned by the Russian Federation represented by Roscosmos. The Eurasian industrial design application “Energy-absorbing cosmonaut chair” was filed on June 1, 2021, the launch day of the Eurasian legal protection system for industrial designs.

In a solemn ceremony, the President of the Eurasian Office handed over a patent certificate to Maksim Ovchinnikov, Acting Director General of Roscosmos.

During the meeting Maxim Ovchinnikov informed about the Corporation’s activities in the field of intellectual property protection. He emphasized that one of the most important tasks in this area is the most comprehensive utilisation of intellectual property potential by Roscosmos. This approach requires that staff members from all units of Roscomos Corporation treat the results of intellectual activity as significant assets.

The Roscosmos delegation also spoke about the corporation’s approaches to selecting the form of protection of the results of intellectual activity, informed about initiatives to improve the federal legislation governing the field of intellectual property.

The EAPO President noted that interaction with state corporations working in high-tech fields is an important area of the EAPO’s activities. Saule Tlevlessova welcomed the positive dynamics of filing Eurasian applications for inventions by the organizations of the Roscosmos system, highly valued the quality of these applications, the level of technologies presented in them and the potential for the commercialization of such inventions. The EAPO President also emphasized the advantages of using the regional system for the protection of inventions and industrial designs, taking into account the existing and prospective cooperation of Roscosmos with the countries of the Eurasian region.

The results of the meeting were aimed at developing interaction between the two organizations in the field of educational activities, mutual participation in events, and holding meetings on a regular basis.
