On March 16 – 18, 2021, the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), with the participation of the Federal Institute for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation (Rospatent) and Gorodissky & Partners law firm conducted an online training on examination of computer-implemented inventions, including inventions in the field of artificial intelligence.

The event was the first of a series of webinars and online trainings planned by the EAPO in 2021 for the national IP offices of the Member States of the Eurasian Patent Organization on relevant topics in the field of patenting inventions and industrial designs.

The training included lectures and practical sessions on the EAPO approaches to the patent classification of computer-implemented inventions, patent search and substantive examination of Eurasian applications in this field, the practice of Rospatent with respect to providing legal protection for such inventions. In particular, the speakers focused on the peculiarities of patenting inventions in the field of artificial intelligence.

Gorodissky & Partners held a round table “Comprehensive approach to legal protection of hardware and software solutions” that highlighted the problematic issues of patenting of such subject matters, foreign patenting, formalizing and managing ownership of IP assets created by employees, as well as disposal of such rights.

Examiners and experts of national IP offices of all EAPC Contracting States, as well as representatives of technology parks and innovation centers, working in the field of information and telecommunication technologies and interacting with patent offices at the stage of patent examination, took part in the training events.
