A delegation of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) paid a visit to the Eurasian Patent Office on January 24-25, 2019.

EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova met the delegates. The hosts and the guests, among others, discussed the reciprocally agreed Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Cooperation and its upcoming signing. EAPO President mentioned that the signing of the MoU will be a remarkable event for the European and Eurasian Offices.

The working meetings of the EUIPO delegation with the representatives of EAPO were devoted to discussing bilateral cooperation issues.

The parties highlighted their main activities and shared experience in provision of legal protection to industrial property subject matters, development of international cooperation, creation of patent information search systems and electronic communication systems with applicants, using modern information technologies in offices, including possible future use of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.

During the meetings, the current state of the project on the creation of a Eurasian system of legal protection of industrial designs based on the EAPO and the possible assistance of the EUIPO to EAPO in accession to the Hague system and in preparing guidelines in the field of industrial designs were discussed.

The EUIPO representatives spoke about the work of the office in matters regarding mediation in the field of intellectual property, the activities of the EUIPO Academy and the EUIPO programs for training national experts.

The parties identified the priority areas of cooperation for the preparation of a joint work plan for the nearest term.
