EAPO President Saule Tlevlessova discussed the creation of the Eurasian system of legal protection of industrial designs with representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on December 6, 2019.

Saule Tlevlessova met with Binying Wang, Deputy Director General responsible for the Brands and Designs Sector, Grégoire Bisson, Director of the Hague Registry of Brands and Designs Sector, as well as other representatives of the Hague Registry.

Saule Tlevlessova spoke about the current state of the EAPO initiative to create a Eurasian system of legal protection of industrial designs, informed about the results of the Diplomatic Conference on the Adoption of the Protocol on the Protection of Industrial Designs and the ongoing activities of the Contracting States to the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) for the ratification or accession to the Industrial Designs Protocol.

Special attention was drawn to the project on introduction of the WIPO Industrial Property Automation System (IPAS) in EAPO, study of international experience in industrial designs.

The EAPO President also announced about the drafting the regulatory documents detailing the provisions of the Industrial Designs Protocol and about the discussion of these drafts with the representatives of the EAPO Member States, signed the Protocol, in the near future. WIPO representatives expressed the readiness to provide the necessary legal analysis of the drafted documents.
