The Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) delegation, at the invitation of the Chinese party, participated in the Patent Information Annual Conference of China CPAC 2017, within the frameworks of bilateral cooperation between EAPO and the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO), which took place on September 5-6, 2017 in Beijing.

Being held this year under the heading “Patent, Driving the Growth of Real Economy”, CPAC 2017 hosted more than eight thousand participants as representatives of Chinese and foreign innovative firms that create and implement patent-based real products and technologies. Companies, like Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo, IBM, Apple, Hitachi, Siemens, Microsoft, as well as representatives of patent offices and international organizations in the field of intellectual property, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, a number of national patent offices representing countries participating in the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI), as well as inventors, patent attorneys and representatives of leading companies in the field of patent information, such as Questel, Lexus Nexus, Chemical Abstracts, etc, took part in the event.

In his welcoming remarks at the opening of the Conference, SIPO Commissioner Mr. Shen Changyu stressed that the development of the economy can and should be facilitated by such important factors as the growth of innovation, the strengthening of intellectual property (IP) rights protection, the promotion of IP reforms and the expansion of international cooperation in this field.

The conference was an effective platform for exchanging experience in the field of strategies for the use of IP rights and their impact on the growth of the commercial potential of engineering companies and producers.

Within the framework of the Conference, plenary sessions and breakout sessions were held on various issues related to the protection and use of IP rights and current trends in the development of the patent system at the national and regional levels.

The EAPO delegation took part in an open session dedicated to the issues of cooperation in the field of IP between the offices and organizations of the BRI member states. In a dialogue coordinated by SIPO, the representatives of the patent offices of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Singapore and the Eurasian Office shared their experience and performance results in measures taken towards innovation stimulation in the country/region, improvement of the efficiency and quality of examination, provision of the patent system access to office information products and services to users.
