EAPO President Grigory Ivliev takes part in the launch of the Global Innovation Index report for Asia 2024, held in Astana.

WIPO prepares the GII annually for 133 countries using 78 indicators. It is calculated as the average of two sub-indices. The Innovation Input Sub-Index gauges institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market and business sophistication. The Innovation Output Sub-Index captures the actual results of innovative activities, namely knowledge and technology outputs and creative outputs.

  • Armenia and Tajikistan have significantly improved their indicators in the ranking: Armenia is 63rd (72nd in 2023) and Tajikistan is 107th (111th in 2023).
  • Moscow remains one of the largest science and technology clusters in middle-income countries.
  • Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan have enhanced their indicators in innovation investment and outputs in production.
  • Kazakhstan has become one of the top three leading countries in the Central and South Asia region.

“Kazakhstan has succeeded in developing e-services for public services and e-systems in general, as well as has advanced in improving business policy and culture. Kyrgyzstan has improved indicators on human capital and research, education expenditure, the credit amount for microfinance and the use of low-carbon energy sources,” said Grigory Ivliev.

Grigory Ivliev noted that the research methodology focused on country indicators. However, according to Mr. Ivliev, the analysis system should include data on Eurasian patenting. They provide a significant increase in the number of active patents in many EAPO Member States, which affects the general economic situation.
