President of the Eurasian Patent Office Saule Tlevlessova and Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry held a working meeting on June 19, 2020, in Geneva.

Discussion the solution of important issues for the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), complicated by the current restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, was the main purpose of the meeting.

EAPO and WIPO leaders discussed the situation with the EAPO application for appointment as an International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in the absence of a traditional physical meeting of the PCT Committee for Technical Cooperation and the related procedural difficulties.

Francis Gurry as the depositary of the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) was informed about the first two ratifications of the Protocol on the Protection of Industrial Designs to the EAPC and the third ratification expected in the nearest future. EAPO and WIPO leaders have agreed on the possibility to deposit the instruments of ratification via the heads of diplomatic missions of EAPC Contracting States, located in Geneva.

EAPO President took the opportunity to invite Mr. Gurry to take part in the celebrations dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the EAPO, scheduled for September, 2020, in Moscow. Accepting the invitation, Francis Gurry expressed his hope for the completion of the current quarantine restrictions by the scheduled period.
