On September 16, 2022, a videoconference meeting was held between President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) Grigory Ivliev and Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) Mr. Shen Changyu.

The parties exchanged information on the recent achievements of the offices, application statistics and discussed proposals for expanding cooperation.

Mr. Shen Changyu congratulated the EAPO on obtaining the status of International Authority, and assured that CNIPA is ready to cooperate for providing more qualitative services for applicants.

The Eurasian patent system is gaining popularity among Chinese applicants. Thus, according to current indicators, China ranks 4th in terms of the number of Eurasian invention applications. Over the past 3 years, the growth in the filing of Eurasian applications by Chinese applicants has been approximately 30%.

Summarizing the meeting, the heads of Offices agreed to move the PPH program from a pilot format to a permanent basis, as well as extend it to international work products, prepared by both Offices as PCT International Searching Authorities. In addition, the parties decided to expand the exchange of patent information and organize an expert dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
