EAPO President Grigory Ivliev and Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) of the People’s Republic of China Shen Changyu discussed cooperation in the field of intellectual property between Eurasia and China.

The meeting was held at the Eurasian Patent Office on the sidelines of the 16th Meeting of Heads of IP Offices of the BRICS countries, currently underway in Moscow.

Grigory Ivliev proposed to arrange consultations with Chinese IT specialists and examiners to exchange experience on patent quality development.

As he noted, the EAPO initiated a project aimed at creating an Integrated Information System, which involves the modernization of the IT infrastructure. The Office is interested in bilateral data exchange in the field of industrial designs.

Grigory Ivliev invited Chinese representatives to participate in one of the practice-oriented trainings organized by the EAPO and WIPO for specialists in technoparks.

The parties also discussed cooperation between Eurasian and Chinese patent attorneys and the organization of seminars on the Eurasian patent system for Chinese users.

“The Eurasian patent system is becoming more popular with Chinese applicants. The number of applications for inventions and industrial designs has increased in recent years. China is the 3rd most active applicant after the US and Russia. According to the results of 2023, the volume of commerce between China and EAPO Member States increased from 24 to 67 %. Increasing exports to our countries is a good opportunity for China to develop its economy, Ivliev said.

Another proposal was to award Chinese young inventors. Grigory Ivliev proposed to include a Eurasian nomination in the One Belt, One Road initiative and nominate the best Eurasian patents and their holders in China.
