Homepage / Press-center / News / CHINA IS ONE OF THE LEADERS IN PATENTING GREEN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES IN EURASIA

Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), reported about it at the 29th Baku Energy Forum, which started today in Azerbaijan.

Representatives from different countries and energy companies discussed international cooperation to ensure energy security, current and future prospects in the energy industry, the impact of climate on the global energy landscape and the potential of green energy in the world.

EAPO President Grigory Ivliev described global technological trends in green and hydrogen energy. He noted that the analysis of patent applications filed with the EAPO revealed a regional tendency associated with the hydrocarbon potential of different countries. The number of Eurasian patent applications for technologies for hydrogen production from natural gas has increased in the Eurasian countries rich in hydrocarbon resources. The number of such applications increased by 35% last year compared to 2022.

Meanwhile, inventors are exploring ways to make the technologies for producing blue and turquoise hydrogen cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

“This is facilitated by the policy taken by Russia and the Republic of Belarus to develop hydrogen energy, including joint research projects within the Union State. Similar research projects are also conducted in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan,” said EAPO President Grigory Ivliev.

Green energy is actively developing in Eurasian countries where climatic and geographical conditions allow the widespread use of renewable energy sources, such as Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. China is the leader in patenting green energy technologies in Eurasia.

“Chinese applicants currently file applications in the field of green energy in more jurisdictions compared to applicants from other regions. The active participation of Chinese applicants in the near future may encourage applicants from other countries, including those from the Eurasian region, to patent such solutions,” concluded EAPO President Grigory Ivliev.
