TO THE ATTENTION OF APPLICANTS

Please note that in the context of the transition to paperless documentation management technologies in EAPO a new Procedure for Preparing for the Grant of a Eurasian Patent Certificate and Supplementary Documents is approved by the EAPO Order No. 7 of February 20, 2017.

This Procedure stipulates that with effect from January 1, 2018 the Eurasian patent certificate will be, as previously, issued as the official form signed by EAPO President, but no printed description of the invention to the Eurasian patent will be attached (including the description of the invention itself, claims, drawings and abstract).

The description of the invention to the Eurasian patent is published on the EAPO web portal and is available for viewing and downloading in electronic form immediately after the date of publication of the information on the grant of the Eurasian patent on the Eurasian Publication Server. Access to the Publication Server is available via a link located on the main page of the EAPO web portal www.eapo.org. The guidelines for use of the server’s search features are as well available on the Publication Server.

To ensure quick access to description files, the Eurasian patent certificate will contain a QR-code that encodes the permanent location of the mentioned files and other information related to each particular Eurasian patent on the EAPO web portal.

Starting from January 1, 2018 the preparation and grant of the description of the invention to the Eurasian patent in hard copy will be carried out only at the request of the applicant/patent owner upon payment of the appropriate fee according to the Procedure for the Provision of Paid Services by the Eurasian Patent Office of the Eurasian Patent Organization.

Until the end of the current year, the grant of Eurasian patents will be carried out with the attachment of a paper printed description of the invention to the patent certificate. However, the applicant/patent owner may opt out of the preparation by EAPO and receipt of the paper printed description of the invention to the Eurasian patent, with the corresponding notification of the EAPO submitted prior to the date of registration of the patent.
